Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Update on Vista 64 bit
I have been going nuts with Dreamweaver 8 .. If you are running I.E.7 and do not apply the patch 8.0.2 for Dreamweaver, when you connect to a website it will randomly loose all login information and you will need to put the information back in your FTP details.
I rebuilt my computer the other week and due to having a 64 bit processor decided to go Vista 64 bit. However I have had some software compatibilty issues.
The Dreamweaver 8.0.2 update will not install on a computer running Windows Vista 64 bit. You get an error message saying the application was stopped and did not patch.
I tried to run the program as adminstrator but it didn't help, I also tried to run XP service pack 2 compatibility with no success.
After 2 weeks and lots cursing I thought of trying to install Dreamweaver 8 and patching it on another computer - which was running Vista 32bit, then copying the whole installed directory to my Vista 64 bit computer and it works !! Before doing this I renamed the exisiting folder containing the unpatched Dreamweaver (incase it didn't work) and then copying the patched installation to the same location as the old folder (i.e. same harddrive).
So if you are here because like me you couldn't get it working thats your solution
Goodluck!!

Thanks for the tip - it worked for me! I installed Dreamweaver on my Windows XP Pro 32-bit machine (running via VMWare Server) and updated it. I then renamed the C:\Program Files (x86)\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8 folder to C:\Profram Files (x86)\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8.bak and copied the C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8 folder to C:\Program Files (x86)\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8 on my XP Pro 64-bit workstation.
It indeed solved the saving passwords issue!

Thanks for posting this! I also had innumeralble problems with installing Dreamweaver on a 64bit Windows platform. I followed your instructions and now it works flawlessly!
Thanks again!
So let's say that I have another laptop that has a 32 bit VISTA operating system - I just install Dreamweaver to this machine, change the folder name so that it ends with .bak, and then copy to my other laptop and this works? How does this install the proper info into the registry. I don't understand the concept.
Its for the update .. not the full program
You, my friend, are AWESOME!! Worked perfectly. This has been bugging me for months.
I copied the updated Dreamweaver program folder from my XP computer onto a CD, the copied the Dreamweaver program to my Vista 64 laptop. It works perfectly. Genius. Just goes to show that trial and error always wins.
Thank you for this. My Dreamweaver would start but not display until I put the 8.02 update on. Your instructions worked just fine and I'm a very happy camper.
Thank you for taking the time to write this up.

Thank you so much for sharing your work around. 64 bit Vista has caused so many headaches that finding a quick fix for this install was a blessing!
